In the eighties I voiced, and essentially wrote, a series of radio commercials for a brand-new product that we now take for granted: the gourmet ice cream bar. Controversy ensued because some who had never heard of me thought I was mocking the mentally-handicapped; I had to do an hour-long "phone-in" on the biggest radio talk show in Los Angeles to assure everyone I was just being myself.
