Over twenty years ago I took part in a campaign to introduce to Los Angeles and Dallas a product which we now take for granted but which was then completely unknown: the gourmet ice cream bar. I wound up causing a controversy because some people who had never heard of me thought I was mocking the mentally-handicapped. I had to do a phone-in with the biggest radio talk show host in Los Angeles to assure his listeners that I was just being myself.
